A usability-focused redesign of Philippe Starck’s infamous Hot Bertaa kettle — his self-described “most beautiful fiasco.”
The goal was not to erase the original object’s strange sculptural presence, but to make it more legible, stable, and safe to use. I kept the recognizable silhouette and theatrical attitude of the kettle while reworking the parts of the design that interfere with everyday function.
The result is a critique through redesign: still awkward, still iconic, but less hostile to the person using it.
